Depression Counseling

Depression can be especially confusing when, from the outside, your life seems like it should be fine. You may find yourself wondering, What is wrong with me? Why can’t I just feel happy? I should be able to feel better than this. You may feel exhausted, numb, disconnected, irritable, or unable to find joy in things that once mattered to you. Your instinct may be to push harder, criticize yourself, or try to think your way out of it. But depression involves more than your thoughts—it can also affect your body, energy, and sense of connection. When you’re feeling shut down or depleted, pressuring yourself to feel better can leave you feeling even more stuck. Sometimes, the path forward begins not with pushing harder, but with approaching yourself with greater understanding, compassion, and care.

Depression can also feel deeply lonely, even when you’re surrounded by people who care about you. You may appear to be functioning on the outside while feeling disconnected from yourself and others on the inside. Therapy offers a space where you can feel seen, understood, and supported without pressure to feel differently than you do. Through a compassionate, polyvagal-informed approach, we can explore how your nervous system may be responding to prolonged stress, painful experiences, or emotional overwhelm, and how feelings of shutdown may be connected to these experiences.

Alongside exploring the emotional experiences and patterns contributing to depression, we may use body-based practices and practical tools to help you gradually reconnect with your emotions, energy, and capacity for engagement. Together, we’ll explore what you’ve been carrying, what may be keeping you stuck, and what helps you feel more connected and alive. Over time, therapy can help you find your way back to yourself, to others, and to the parts of life that bring meaning and joy.
